Social Responsibility Programs We Support
The Maine Credit Union League encourages Maine Credit Unions to get involved with Social Responsibility efforts. We feel that its important to give back to the local communities that our membership is open to. Throughout the year, we support several different programs with fundraising activities, 50/50 raffles and prize raffles! Read a bit about each below.
Each year, nearly all of Maine’s credit unions participate in the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger. All money raised is distributed to hunger organizations and food pantries throughout our local Maine communities.
We do several different fundraising activities throughout the year, including, but not limited to, selling candy bars, Fun Town/Splash Town Tickets and Uncle Henry’s Books.
A special thank you to the Red Knights Chapter 13 Motorcycle Group who recently raised $500 towards the Ending Hunger Campaign from a Bike Rally they organized!
Maine Children’s Cancer Program
This fall, some of our employees will be participating in the Maine Children’s Cancer Program Walk! You’ll notice coin jars available for you to put your spare change in to support our walk (all proceeds go to the kids!).
Mark your calendars – Santa will be coming to WCFCU! On Friday, November 25th from 3PM-5PM and on Friday, December 2nd from 3PM-6PM. Bring the kiddo’s out to have their picture taken with Santa!
Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanderers
The Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanderers does so much for the community, including their Christmas Program. The Christmas Program provides new donated toys and warm winter clothes to children in need.
For the 2nd year, we had a, “Christmas in July,” fundraiser with the KV Chapter of CU’s to help collect items for the Christmas Program. The cash donations totaled $181 and below is a photo of all the gifts that were donated.
Their mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. We sell Flagship Cinema Movie Book Passes and donate the proceeds and we also volunteer our time.
American Red Cross
In May of this year, we hosted our first blood drive. We plan to make this an annual event! The American Red Cross is the nation’s largest blood collection organization, supplying approximately 40 percent of the blood and blood products used in our country.
Did you know that every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood? Be on the lookout for our 2017 Blood Drive date, or find a drive near you!
